This book is a collaboration between Luigi Amato and myself. He came up with the idea of making a book displaying its own state during the act of browsing it. He brought in some sketches and it was immediately clear that the book needed a special tool for the composition.
A tool able to compute – and draw according to the results – the state of the book for each spread. In other words, the program does not compose elements taken from elsewhere, but it is instructed to make the book one page at the time. Drawbot was my tool of choice, given that I wanted total control of the layout, graphics and type altogether. Look at the typography on the external side, isn’t it beautiful, yet meaningful in this particular situation? Try to do that with InDesign.
